UCB Race Weekend Recap by Megan Bradley
The Cal Cycling race weekend reminded us of how much we love hills!
Saturday started off with the team time trial, which gave a taste of the inclines to come. UC Davis’s Men A and B categories had a great morning and earned a first place for their TTT races. The road race took place at the former 2003 nationals course where the infamous McEwen climb awaited racers. Eleanor Wiseman (Cal) in Women A, “was trying to push the pace with the leaders” on McEwen to maintain their gap, not a pleasant task. She had a strong 2nd place finish behind 1st place, Maddy Ward (UCLA), who led a single-rider breakaway from the first lap.
Sunday welcomed racers with some sunshine, but it also meant it was time for the Berkeley streets criterium! This crit consisted of one city block on a slope, which meant categories had to climb a short hill over 30 times. That was no match for Bradley Wiggs (Cal Poly SLO) who placed 1st in Men D. The races ran smoothly and all teams brought a lot of energy to the race that resulted in a successful weekend!
